Today, it was announced that Brett
Farve is retiring from the Green Bay Packers. Since I am married to a good Wisconsin boy, there was much sadness at the
Benisch house tonight.
I have never been a huge football fan, and I never really had a loyalty to the Broncos or any other team. So when Doug entered my life with a passion for the Packers, I thought "Sure, why not?" and jumped on board the Packer bandwagon.
With the announcement of Brett retiring, I began to reflect on the "Packer Memories" I had. So I thought I would share my favorite memories.
For Superbowl 31, Doug's sister Lisa had a huge party. Doug and I had just gotten our first dog Pugsly, so we brought him along. For those of you who never met Pugsly, I have a picture of him below. But in a nutshell, he had a Boxer body with Basset Hound legs. Lisa had cooked a turkey for dinner and we had left the remains on the counter upstairs, while we all went downstairs to watch the game. A little while later, someone went up stairs to get something, only to discover that Pugsly had gotten the turkey off the counter and devoured it!!!!! Pugsly then puked for the next 24 hours. It was very scary. Both of us had to go to work the next day, so we left Pugsly in Doug's bedroom. When he got home that evening, the room smelt like death, it took days to clean it up!!! However, Pugsly recovered just fine. He went on to live about ten more years. But he never ate another turkey!!!!

When I was pregnant with Charlie, we went back to Wisconsin for the holidays. We mentioned that it would be nice to bring Charlie home from the hospital in a Packer's outfit. You'd think this wouldn't be a difficult task in Wisconsin. So my DMIL Lynn, loaded us in her mini-van and off we went. After hours and hours of shopping, we still had found nothing in a newborn size. I was tired, pregnant and my back hurt. But Lynn was determined to find an outfit. So, about six hours into this marathon, we finally found a newborn outfit. Ironically, Charlie was premature and too small for the outfit.
We also visited Lambeau Field and the Packer Hall of Fame that trip!!!
Here is Charlie watching his first Packer game at Jerdie and Edens. We would spend Sundays at their house having football parties!!

I also have great memories of watching Packer games with our friends on Sundays. Most recently, we headed out to a bar called Rocky Flats, owned by some Wisconsinites, to watch a game. Our friends from Wisconsin Lori and Ken joined us, as well as Eden. A great time was had by all! (Well, except for Jerdie who was home sick!)
Here is a picture of Charlie from today, wearing his Packer sweatshirt in honor of Brett retiring. He is busy running around the play area at Cherry Creek Mall, so he was in no mood for mama to take his picture. Oh Well!!!

Well, I guess this is good-bye Brett Farve and thanks for the memories!!!!
